NETTLE SHAWL – NEANTÓG DEARG
100 % Nettle Fibre | Hand-knit in Nepal | Naturally Dyed in Ireland
Our nettle shawls begin high in the Himalayas, where wild nettle is harvested, retted, hand-spun and hand-knit by artisans working with a fair-trade organisation (WFTO application in progress). Finished shawls travel directly to our Clare dye house, where we scour and colour them in small batches using only rain-harvested water, cold-mordant techniques and madder root.
Why it’s special
• 100 % nettle fibre – gathered, spun and knit entirely by hand.
• Fair-trade supply chain – ensures stable income for remote Nepalese families.
• Batch-dyed in Co. Clare – each shawl gets personal attention and even colour.
• Low-energy, closed-loop studio – rainwater process, alum & iron only; filtered rinse water feeds our woodland, dye solids become worm compost to feed our dye plants again.
• Naturally unique – slight variations in size and stitch; like linen, nettle softens beautifully with wear.
