Western European Linen Fibre

Beautiful long-staple flax fibre combed into a smooth, lustrous top—ready for spinning, needle felting or blending into art batts.

This flax is grown and processed entirely in Western Europe, where the cool climate produces some of the finest linen fibres in the world. The fibre is dew-retted, a traditional process in which moisture and microorganisms gently separate the fibres from the plant stems.

Flax spins best with lightly damp fingertips, allowing the fibres to draft smoothly and producing a strong, elegant linen yarn.

Choose between two preparations:

• Natural flax – unbleached fibre in its natural silver-beige tone
• Bleached flax – clean white linen fibre ideal for dyeing

Ramie Roving

Strong Natural Fibre from the Nettle Family

Ramie is a beautiful plant fibre derived from the ramie nettle (Boehmeria nivea), a traditional textile plant used for thousands of years in Asia.

The fibre is naturally white with a silky lustre and shares many characteristics with flax/linen. Ramie fibres are extremely strong, highly absorbent and take dye beautifully.

Compared with flax, ramie is slightly coarser but ramie fibres are naturally very long and strong. After processing into roving the staple length is typically around 6–15 cm, making it suitable for spinning and fibre blending.

Ramie can also be used in fibre art and textile projects such as doll hair or decorative fibre work.

Ramie does not felt on its own but bonds well with wool when incorporated into felted work.

Care

Hemp Roving

Strong Natural Plant Fibre

Beautiful, high-quality hemp fibre combed into a smooth spinning top. This degummed hemp roving is ready for spinning and other fibre art projects.

Hemp is one of the oldest textile fibres used by humans and comes from the stems of the Cannabis sativa plant. As a bast fibre, it shares characteristics with flax and ramie: strong, durable and naturally lustrous.

This hemp has been degummed, removing the natural plant gums so the fibre drafts more smoothly when spinning.

You can choose between two variants:

• Natural hemp – soft beige natural fibre colour
• Oxygen bleached hemp – light, clean fibre ideal for dyeing

Hemp fibres produce strong yarns and add durability and structure when blended with other fibres.

Sustainability

Hemp is considered one of the most environmentally friendly textile fibres. The plant grows quickly, requires little irrigation and typically needs fewer agricultural inputs than many other fibre crops.

Care

Finished hemp textiles can be hand washed gently and dried flat. Hemp fibres soften with wear and washing.

Kapok Fibre

Lightweight Natural Plant Filling

Kapok is a naturally lightweight plant fibre collected from the seed pods of the kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra). The silky floss surrounding the seeds is harvested, cleaned and prepared as a natural filling material.

Kapok fibres are extremely light — around one eighth the weight of cotton — and have natural buoyancy and resilience. The fibre is also naturally moisture resistant and quick drying.

Because kapok fibres are short and brittle, they are not suitable for spinning or felting. Instead, they are widely used as a plant-based filling for cushions, toys and textile projects.

How Kapok is Harvested

The seed pods of the kapok tree are harvested or collected once they fall from the tree. The pods are opened and the seeds are separated from the surrounding fibre. The fibre is then cleaned and prepared for use.

Kapok is an excellent vegan alternative to wool or feather fillings.

Working Tips

Fluff the fibre before use to create even loft.
Fill items in layers and compress gently as you go.
A funnel or wide-neck opening can help when filling smaller items.

Kapok can also be blended with other natural fillings to adjust firmness.

Care

Keep kapok filling inside a removable inner cover where possible.
Air and fluff regularly.
If washing an encased item, ensure it dries completely.

A vibrant collection of naturally dyed wool fleece — soft, colourful, and full of texture.
Each 100 g mixed bag includes 12 shades, dyed with traditional natural dyes such as indigo, madder, birch and weld, creating a harmonious palette of earthy and bright tones. Please note, that cochineal (a small bug) is also used.

Dyed in Germany using gentle, time-honoured methods, this fleece comes from mulesing-free farming and retains the natural character of the wool.

Due to the dyeing process, the fibres are lightly felted, which adds body and texture. While wet-felting may be slightly more challenging, the fleece remains perfectly suited for needle felting, spinning, blending, weaving, and decorative fibre work.
