Hand-knit shawls made from wild Himalayan nettle fibre and naturally dyed in our Co. Clare studio with closed-loop processes. Breathable, softly structured layers — crafted slowly, dyed with care, and made to be worn for years.
100% Nettle Fibre | Hand-knit in Nepal | Naturally Dyed in Co. Clare, Ireland
Our nettle shawl collection has been long in the making. High in the Himalayas, wild nettle is harvested, retted, hand-spun and hand-knit by artisans working with a fair-trade organisation (WFTO application in progress). Each piece supports rural families through fair income while preserving traditional handcraft skills passed down through generations.
Once finished, the undyed shawls travel directly to our dye studio in County Clare, where they are carefully scoured and coloured using rain-harvested water, slow cold-mordant methods, and pure botanical dyes. The process is gentle on fibre, low-energy, and entirely free from synthetic chemicals or heavy metals.
Dyed with madder root, Lása Dearg reveals a warm, earthy red — deep, vibrant, and alive with natural variation.
