LIOLINA â Textured Natural Grey & White Linen Fabric
100% Linen | 280 g/mÂČ | Approx. 150 cm Wide | European Production
If silk is the queen of the East, linen is surely its European cousin.
LIOLINA is one of my personal favourites â a beautifully textured, substantial European linen woven from two-tone, slubby yarns in natural grey and white. The combination of unbleached natural-grey and oxygen-bleached white yarns creates a wonderfully lively, subtly mottled appearance, full of depth and natural character.
At 280 g/mÂČ, LIOLINA is one of the heavier linens in our collection. Its robust construction and tactile surface make it an excellent all-round fabric for jackets, trousers, bags, upholstery, curtains and creative textile projects.
Strong, versatile and full of personality, LIOLINA becomes increasingly soft and comfortable with washing and use while retaining its distinctive textured appearance.
The Fabric
LIOLINA is woven from 100% linen in a traditional plain weave, using slubby yarns that create subtle irregularities and a beautifully tactile surface.
Its distinctive appearance comes from the combination of natural-grey, unbleached yarns and oxygen-bleached white yarns, giving the fabric a softly mottled, two-tone character.
Despite its substantial 280 g/mÂČ weight, the fabric remains breathable and develops a softer, more relaxed feel after washing.
The sturdy construction makes LIOLINA particularly well suited to projects requiring durability and structure, from everyday jackets and trousers to furniture covers and substantial home textiles.
Please note: LIOLINA is not prewashed. Allow for approximately 10â15% shrinkage before cutting and sewing. Product photographs show the fabric after washing.
Natural Dyeing
LIOLINA offers interesting possibilities for natural dyeing, embroidery and textile surface design.
Its combination of unbleached natural-grey and oxygen-bleached white yarns provides a distinctive starting point for natural colour.
Because the two yarn types have different starting shades and have undergone different processing, the finished colour may develop subtle tonal variations, allowing the textured character of the weave to remain or become even more visible.
The robust plain weave and slubby surface also make LIOLINA an interesting choice for decorative stitching and experimental textile projects.
As a cellulose fibre, linen benefits from thorough scouring and an appropriate cellulose mordanting process to achieve consistent and lasting results.
Please note: The natural-grey and white yarns may respond differently to dyes. We recommend testing your chosen dyeing process on a small sample, particularly when aiming for an even colour.

Sustainability & Natural Fibres
Linen is made from flax, a renewable plant fibre traditionally cultivated across Europe.
Flax can grow with relatively little irrigation in suitable climates, and different parts of the plant can be used for textiles, linseed oil and other products, helping to make efficient use of the crop.
Linen is naturally strong, long-lasting and biodegradable under suitable conditions. Its durability makes it particularly appealing for garments, accessories and household textiles intended for years of use.
LIOLINA is woven entirely from flax fibres, without synthetic fibre blends.
The distinctive two-tone appearance is achieved by combining natural, unbleached grey yarns with partially oxygen-bleached white yarns rather than dyeing the entire finished fabric.
Care Instructions
Before Sewing
-
Prewash to allow for approximately 10â15% shrinkage.
-
Allow the fabric to relax fully before cutting.
-
Remember that the photographs show the washed fabric.
Washing & Drying
-
Machine wash at 60â90°C on a normal cycle, according to the supplier's care recommendations.
-
Use an eco-friendly laundry detergent.
-
Hang to dry naturally or lay flat while damp.
-
Avoid excessive tumble drying to minimise additional shrinkage.
Ironing & Finishing
There is no need to iron LIOLINA unless you prefer a smoother finish. Its natural creasing and slightly irregular texture are part of its charm.
If desired, iron while the fabric is still damp.
With every wash, LIOLINA becomes softer, more supple and beautifully lived-in, retaining the structure and textured character that make this fabric such a favourite.
