LIONA – White European Linen Fabric
100% Linen | 190 g/m² | Approx. 150 cm Wide | European Production
Linen is often described as the European version of silk – timeless, breathable and wonderfully comfortable against the skin.
LIONA is a beautifully versatile, medium-weight European linen that sits comfortably between fine and rustic, lightweight and heavy. Slightly more substantial than our LINON fabric, it offers the perfect balance of softness and structure for everyday clothing and home textiles.
Woven from 100% linen and oxygen bleached to a classic white, LIONA is a lovely choice for skirts, trousers, shirts and dresses, as well as creative sewing and textile projects.
The Fabric
At 190 g/m², LIONA is a medium-weight woven linen with enough body for structured garments while remaining breathable, comfortable and beautifully natural.
Compared with our lighter LINON (125 g/m²), LIONA offers more substance, making it particularly suitable for trousers, skirts and garments that benefit from a little extra structure.
The fabric is not prewashed. After its first wash, it softens and relaxes, developing the lovely drape and natural character that make linen so enjoyable to work with.
Please note: The product photographs show the fabric after washing. Allow for approximately 10% shrinkage and prewash before cutting and sewing.
Natural Dyeing
LIONA is suitable for natural dyeing, botanical printing, embroidery and textile surface design.
As a cellulose fibre, linen benefits from thorough scouring and a suitable cellulose mordanting process to achieve consistent, lasting colours.
The slightly heavier weave makes LIONA a lovely option for natural dye projects intended for clothing, accessories and home textiles.
Please note: LIONA is oxygen bleached rather than unbleached. We recommend testing your chosen dyeing process on a small sample before proceeding with larger quantities.

Sustainability & Natural Fibres
Linen is made from flax, a renewable plant fibre traditionally grown across Europe. Flax can require relatively little irrigation in suitable growing conditions, and different parts of the plant can be used for textiles, linseed oil and other products.
Naturally strong and long-lasting, linen is a wonderful alternative to synthetic fabrics. Its durability means that well-made linen garments and household textiles can be enjoyed for many years.
LIONA is made entirely from flax fibres, without synthetic fibre blends. It has been oxygen bleached to achieve its classic white finish.
Care Instructions
Before Sewing
-
Prewash to allow for approximately 10% shrinkage.
-
Let the fabric relax before cutting.
-
Remember that the product photographs show the washed fabric.
Washing & Drying
-
Machine wash at 60–90°C, as appropriate for your project.
-
Use a gentle spin cycle.
-
Hang or lay flat to dry naturally.
-
Avoid excessive tumble drying to minimise additional shrinkage.
Ironing & Finishing
Iron while damp for a smooth finish, or simply leave unironed to enjoy linen's natural creasing and relaxed character.
With every wash, LIONA becomes softer and more supple while retaining the strength and character that make linen such a lasting favourite.
