Lightweight Natural Plant Filling
Kapok is a naturally lightweight plant fibre collected from the seed pods of the kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra). The silky floss surrounding the seeds is harvested, cleaned and prepared as a natural filling material.
Kapok fibres are extremely light — around one eighth the weight of cotton — and have natural buoyancy and resilience. The fibre is also naturally moisture resistant and quick drying.
Because kapok fibres are short and brittle, they are not suitable for spinning or felting. Instead, they are widely used as a plant-based filling for cushions, toys and textile projects.
The seed pods of the kapok tree are harvested or collected once they fall from the tree. The pods are opened and the seeds are separated from the surrounding fibre. The fibre is then cleaned and prepared for use.

40 × 40 cm pillow
• Light fill: approx. 550 g
• Firm fill: approx. 1100 g
Fluff the fibre before use to create even loft.
Fill items in layers and compress gently as you go.
A funnel or wide-neck opening can help when filling smaller items.
Kapok can also be blended with other natural fillings to adjust firmness.
Keep kapok filling inside a removable inner cover where possible.
Air and fluff regularly.
If washing an encased item, ensure it dries completely.
Roving or Batting
Soft cotton fibre available in two preparations: organic cotton roving for spinning and cotton batting for felting and textile projects.
Cotton is one of the oldest textile fibres used by humans and is valued for its softness, breathability and versatility. The fibre is comfortable to work with and blends beautifully with wool and other plant fibres.
Choose between two preparations depending on your project:
| Fibre Type | Preparation | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Organic Cotton Roving | Smooth combed cotton top | Ideal for spinning and fibre blending |
| Cotton Batting | Light, airy carded cotton | Suitable for felting bases, quilting and craft projects |
The roving is made from organic cotton grown in Central Asia and combed in Germany to create an even, easy-to-draft fibre.
• Hand spinning
• Fibre blending
• Textile art and fibre crafts
• Felting when blended with wool
• Quilting and padding (batting)
Cotton does not felt on its own but bonds well with wool when incorporated into felted work.
Organic Cotton Roving
• 100% organic cotton
• Combed cotton roving
• Organic cotton grown in Central Asia
• Processed in Germany
Cotton Batting
• 100% cotton
• Carded cotton batting

Cotton fibres are durable and easy to care for. Finished textiles can be gently washed and soften with use.
