Der Kurs
Dieser Kurs ist vollständig online und daher weltweit zugänglich. Es besteht aus 12 Modulen; Die Veranstaltung ist über einen Zeitraum von 12 Monaten geplant und beginnt jedes Jahr Mitte Januar. Bitte beachten Sie, dass die Plätze auf maximal 15 Studierende pro Gruppe begrenzt sind und insgesamt 30 Plätze zur Verfügung stehen.
Die Buchung wird jeweils im September eines Jahres für das folgende Jahr eröffnet. Jedes Modul wird am Ersten des Monats eröffnet und bietet Ihnen Zugriff auf schriftliches und illustriertes Material, das Sie durch das jeweilige Thema dieses Moduls führt. Jedes Modul enthält außerdem ein Quiz und ein Projekt; Daraus ergeben sich Rezepte und Beispiele für Ihr Portfolio zu diesem Thema.
Die Struktur
Bei jedem Modul haben Sie ungefähr eine Woche Zeit, um das Thema durchzulesen und sich damit vertraut zu machen. Anschließend gibt es eine Online-Live-Sitzung, in der Sie das Material durcharbeiten und sich auf die Portfolio-Arbeit dieses Moduls vorbereiten können. In der letzten Woche jedes Monats findet eine zweite Live-Sitzung statt, um Ihre Portfolioarbeit zu überprüfen, das Wissen für dieses Modul zu festigen und alle verbleibenden Fragen zu beantworten. Alle Live-Sitzungen werden aufgezeichnet und stehen allen Personen zur Verfügung, die an diesem Tag nicht teilnehmen können. Alle Live-Sitzungen finden für beide Gruppen an einem Dienstag statt, eine um 11 Uhr und die andere um 16 Uhr.
Jedes der Module wird durch spezielle Collaborative Exchange Spaces auf der Plattform unterstützt, in denen Teilnehmer ihre Kreationen veröffentlichen, Fragen stellen und sich zu diesem Thema vernetzen können. Im Rahmen der abschließenden Projektarbeit findet für jeden Teilnehmer eine 20-minütige 1:1-Sitzung statt.

- Erstellen weiterer Sekundärfarben (August)
- Seeherstellung und andere Prozesse (September)
- Drucken und andere Techniken (Okt)
- Industriestandards/Persönliches Projekt (Nov)
- Persönliche Projekte und Präsentationen (Nov./Dez.)
Der besondere Zusatz
Während des Kurses besteht außerdem die Möglichkeit, an fünf Online-Sitzungen teilzunehmen, die vom Bio-Gärtner und Saatgutsparer Tristan Lienhard geleitet werden. über den biologischen Anbau von Waid, Weld, Krapp und anderen Färberpflanzen. Dazu gehören ökologische Gartenbauprinzipien, Aussaat und spezifische Anforderungen für jede Kultur, Ernte und Saatgutaufbewahrung.
Die Feier
Alle Projekte werden in den letzten zwei Wochen des Kurses vorgestellt und gefeiert. Der Kurs endet in der ersten Dezemberwoche mit einer abschließenden Live-Sitzung, bei der jeder Teilnehmer sein AppleOak FibreWorks Natural Dye Academy-Zertifikat erhält.
Die benötigte Zeit
Je nach Modul benötigen Sie etwa 12 bis 25 Stunden pro Monat, um die Kursarbeit durchzulesen, an den Live-Sitzungen teilzunehmen und die Portfolioarbeit abzuschließen.
Kursergebnis
Nach der Teilnahme an diesem Kurs sind Sie in der Lage, Ihre eigene professionelle Färbepraxis zu eröffnen, natürliches Färben erfolgreich in Ihr Kunst- oder Handwerksunternehmen zu integrieren, andere zu unterrichten, weiterzuentwickeln oder einfach ein wirklich guter Heim-/Hobby-Färber zu werden.

Aktuelle Fragen:
Brauche ich einen großen Raum? -Nein. Alles kann in Ihrer Küche erledigt werden, wenn Sie ein Fenster zur Verfügung haben, da Ihnen möglicherweise nicht jeder Geruch gefällt, der Ihnen in den Weg kommt. Sie benötigen jedoch einen speziellen Schrank für die Ausrüstung und einen Ort, an dem Sie Ihre Bottiche/Farbflüssigkeit herstellen und über Nacht oder länger stehen lassen können.
Giftige Inhaltsstoffe? -Nein. Früher habe ich mit Hydros Indigo Vats gearbeitet, bin aber davon abgerückt und alles, was ich handhabe, ist sicher. Einige Tannine können bei empfindlichen Menschen zu Reizungen führen, daher würde ich eine Maske für pulverförmige Inhaltsstoffe empfehlen.
Ausrüstung? - Ja, Sie benötigen eine spezielle Färbeausrüstung und einen Platz zum Aufbewahren.
Wie viel wird es sein? - Bitte beachten Sie, dass es sich um einen Online-Präsenzkurs handelt, der ein Jahr dauert und 1.350 Euro kostet. Mit der Option eines monatlichen Zahlungsplans für 125 Euro pro Monat.
Wird der Kurs hauptsächlich theoretisch sein?Aufgrund des sehr „wissenschaftlichen Aussehens“ der Module, die ich bisher geschrieben habe, wurde ich mehrmals gefragt, ob es sich hauptsächlich um „intelligente“ Theorie und nicht um „praxisorientierte“ Kursarbeit handelt. Bitte seien Sie versichert, dass zu jedem Modul eine Projektarbeit gehört und der Lesestoff lediglich eine Grundlage und einen Überblick bietet. Es ist völlig praktisch, da Sie im Laufe des Jahres Ihr eigenes Portfolio/Nachschlagewerk/Rezeptbuch erstellen, einschließlich eines Abschlussprojekts, das Sie selbst erstellt haben.
Ich lebe in den USA. Macht die Teilnahme für mich Sinn? Absolut! In diesem Kurs werden weltweite Bezugsquellen für Farbstoffe und Beizen behandelt, und ich werde die Zutaten, die Sie benötigen, an Ihr Land anpassen, insbesondere wenn Sie eine lokale Bezugsquelle bevorzugen. Schließlich soll das Portfolio für Sie funktionieren und nicht für mich :)
Wie wäre es mit den Zutaten? - Wir können Ihnen eine sortierte Box mit allen Zutaten und eine zweite mit allen Materialien, die Sie das ganze Jahr über benötigen, zur Verfügung stellen, die Sie in unserem Online-Shop kaufen können. Da es sich jedoch um Ihr eigenes Portfolio handelt, würde ich Ihnen dringend empfehlen, die Stoffe/Fasern usw. zu verwenden, die Sie in Zukunft verwenden möchten. Je nach Land ist es möglicherweise besser, einige Zutaten aus der Region zu beziehen, aber ich werde mich nach der Registrierung mit Ihnen in Verbindung setzen.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass wir kein Pflanzenmaterial nach Australien schicken können. Studierende von dort müssen sich selbst versorgen.

About the Tutor
Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw is a textile artist trained academically in Decorative Arts by Christies, she runs a sustainable dye studio in Glasgow in Scotland and grows an Indigo plant garden on the grounds of the Glasgow Botanic called #theindigoplot. She regularly travels to Asia to train with professional dyers.
She started working with Botanical printing in 2015 after being inspired by India Flint the Australian artist. During the Covid crisis she initiated “The True Colour of the Cotinus” a global online botanical printing project using the Cotinus plant leaves for blue print. She has gathered a large global community of eco artists around her digital studio.
She shares her knowledge locally from her studio, in regular international retreats in France and Thailand and online in live classes.
