ASCOPHILIA
Ascophilia ~ single printed pattern**
In luscious oceanic tangles it arrives, clinging to rocks and driftwood. With twisted strands and buoyant bulbous pods, it hints at underwater worlds replete with colour, nutrients, and beauty... Named after ascophylum nodosum - the scientific term for seaweed - Ascophilia is a ribbed beanie with a whimsical ribbed motif inspired by aquatic plant-life. Knitted in the round from the bottom up, this pattern makes use of traveling stitches and increase/decrease techniques to create a striking, tactile design. Suitable for solid, semi-solid, and subtly variegated yarns, Ascophilia will keep you engaged from start to finish with its unusual, yet intuitive, stitch motif.

BY THE ORCHARD GATE
By the Orchard Gate ~ single printed pattern**
Nearby to where I live, there is a derelict orchard whose grounds I love to explore. As I wander through its rusting gates and dive beneath its trellised archways, I cannot help but sense that once this was a place of romance. ‘Meet me by the orchard gate,’ I nearly hear a voice whisper, lost in the past and in the underfoot crunch of fallen branches.
By the Orchard Gate is the sort of cardigan you might wear to meet a lover on a chilly country night. It is simultaneously cozy and dressy, understated and flattering. Worked top down with contiguous sleeve construction, features include semi-scooped neckline, A-line bodice, vertical lace panels and corded button bands. Suitable for solid, tonal, and lightly variegated yarns. Designed by Ailbíona McLochlainn

CRIOSTA
Criosta ~ single printed pattern**
With a mesmerising sense of movement to its mesh-like horizontal lace, the Criostal shawl invokes the flow of water from crystal-clear mountain lakes to bubbling forest streams.
Worked sideways, using a basic lace repeat and simple increases and decreases, this intricate-looking shawl is surprisingly easy to knit, and to adjust in size. When worked at the specified yarn weight and gauge, a single skein makes for a mid-sized, gauzy, lightweight shawl which can also be styled as an elegant scarf. For best resemblence to the sample, work this shawl in a solid, semi-solid, or lightly variegated yarn, with some silk, ramie, or linen content. Criostal is Irish for ‘crystal,’ and is pronounced similarly to the English.

FISHERMAN'S MUSE
Fisherman's Muse ~ single printed pattern**
On a visit to the Isle of Arran in Scotland some years ago, I (LB Handkntis) met a woman who told me a story. Whether this story is true, of course I cannot say. But that image - of the girl using the hem of her frock as a fishing net - has played on my imagination ever since. Subtly nautical in construction and edged with the classically Scottish Old Shale lace motif, Fisherman’s Muse is a tunic with an asymmetrical hem - a detail playing homage to the tug of that magical haul.

FROST KISS
Frost Kiss ~ single printed pattern**

This fresh take on the basic ribbed beanie features an engaging tuck-stitch motif, which adds warmth, breathability, and visual interest, suiting both solid and variegated yarns. Knit it up over a hot porridge breakfast to wear on your next winter’s walk.

HARVEST SEASON

MALAINN
Malainn ~ single printed pattern**
Malainn is a place to be slowly arrived at. So that one’s amazement might grow, then abate, after every bend, in preparation for what is around the next.
A cropped, front-back reversible pullover with dramatic cowl neck, Málainn draws its inspiration from the zig-zag lanes which lead to Malin Head. Worked from the top down in one piece with saddle shoulder construction, this design features vertical panels of undulating lacework that extend from the tip of the neckline to the edges of the sleeves.

NORDSEE JACKE
Nordsee Jacke ~ single printed pattern**
A German folktale and the pictures of my friend's original childhood cardigan from the Island of Wangeroode, inspired the Nordsee Jacke. PETALS SCATTER
Petals Scatter ~ single printed pattern**
Along the snow-dusted path, a trail of petals lays scattered. And you remember that day, when you clutched the bouquet to your chest and ran home - face frozen, toes numb, heart ablaze...
This deep-winter cowl combines texture and colourwork for a beautifully tactile effect. Easy to knit and blissfully cozy to wear in the coldest months, this is also an excellent project for left-over scrap yarn. Work all the ‘petals’ in a single colourway, or choose a different colour for every round. High-contrast and low-contrast colour combinations will look equally striking.

WINTER FRUIT
Winter Fruit ~ single printed pattern**
As a child I took piano lessons from a teacher who kept a potted lemon tree in her home. The tree bore fruit in winter, and all through the cold months the surfaces of her living room were covered in crystal bowls full of lemons. As snow swirled outside and light streamed through the frosted windows, the citrus fruits glistened like baubles in the darkened living room - an improbable and delightful spectacle to accompany the sounds of the piano...
Intriguingly textured and cuddliciously warm, Winter Fruit is an anatomically shaped, reversible cowl. It is worked much like a top-down sweater yoke - only without the sweater! - making for a satisfyingly quick single-skein project.
