*DISCONTINUED* DOLL JERSEY WITH STRETCH ~ COLOUR 108 YELLOW
DOLL JERSEY ~ De Witte Engel Quality. The best in our opinion!
Well known for making Steiner/Waldorf Dolls, this double knitted fabric is a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to cuddle! It is knitted in the round creating a tube like fabric with no seams.
Please read below for more info.
World Wide Recognized
De Witte Engel in-house Doll Jersey has gained worldwide recognition for its thick high quality, wide colour range as well as for its extra soft and smooth feel. Doll jersey as a material has specific requirements which make the manufacturing process more complex than normal jersey. Therefore, doll jersey has become a specialty product for only a few companies in the world.
Safe and EU regulations compliant
De Witte Engel Doll Jersey is made in Europe from ökotex certified, 100 % cotton yarns and is dyed according to European legislation code EN71 guidelines. These certificates proof that De Witte Engel Doll Jersey is natural, sustainable, and free from toxic and harmful substances and colourants, and especially safe to use in children’s toys.
Double knit Special Quality
The quality of De Witte Engel Doll Jersey is elevated by a double-knit technique. This technique makes our Doll Jersey thicker and more durable as it has two layers of knit together instead of one. This also means that when stretched, our Doll Jersey does not become see-through. These small but crucial steps make all the difference also for the final product the dolls. Even minor variations in the stretch or colour can affect the proportions, durability and life-likeness of the doll. Therefore, De Witte Engel 100 % cotton Doll Jersey is a reliable and consistent choice for crafters and doll makers in every corner of the world.

Recent questions:
Do I need a big space? - No. everything can be done in your kitchen space, if you have a window available, as you might not like every smell that comes your way. However, you will need a dedicated cupboard for equipment and a place to make your Vats/dye liquor and leave overnight or longer.
Poisonous ingredients? - No. I used to work with hydros Indigo Vats in the past, but have moved away from them and everything I handle is safe. Some tannins can cause some irritation if you are sensitive, so I would recommend a mask for powdered ingredients.
Equipment? - Yes, you will need some dedicated dyeing equipment and some place to store it.
How much will it be? - Please keep in mind that it is an online, in person,1 year long course and will cost 1,350 Euros. With an option of a monthly payment plan at 125Euros a month.
Will the course be mainly theoretical? Due to the very 'scientific look' of the modules I have written so far, I have been asked several times, if it is mainly 'brainy' theory instead of 'hands on' coursework. Please be assured, that every module comes with project work and the reading material is only providing a basis and overview. It is totally hands on, as you are building your own portfolio/reference/recipe book over the year, including a final project of your own making.
I live in the US does it make sense for me to take part? Absolutely! This course will cover worldwide sources of dye and mordants and I will tailor ingredients you need according to your country, especially if you prefer a local source. After all, the portfolio is suppose to work for you and not for me :)
How about ingredients? - We can supply you with an assorted box of all the ingredients and a second one with all the materials needed throughout the year, which will be purchasable in our online shop. However, seeing that it will be your own portfolio I would strongly recommend to use the fabrics/ fibres etc you are thinking of using in the future. Some ingredients, depending on country, might be better to source locally, but I will get in touch with you, after registration.
Please be aware, that we can't send any plant material to Australia, any students from there will need to source their own supply.
Not included: A3 or A4 size Portfolio (this will be easier to organize locally) Here is what I use:
A3 Elements Wirebound Sketchbook - 50 sheets 180g - Art & Craft (artandcraft.ie)
Black Paper Cartridge 180g Portrait A3 40 Leaves - Daler Rowney - Cork Art Supplies Ltd
Material lists:
Here you can see what you will need for the year. Please be advised that these are estimates and the final amount depends on how big or small you like to dye your samples. Nonetheless, this should be enough for the year:
*Not included are: organic laundry liquid, organic washing up liquid, white vinegar
Mordants & Modifiers:
1kg Alum, 1kg Soda Ash, 300g Cream of tartar, 500g Sodium Acetate, 1kg Chalk, 1kg Ferrous, 1kg Tara, 500g Lime, 1kg Wheat bran, 250g fruit sugar, 125g tartaric acid, 125g citric acid, 25g Fuller's earth, 25g guar gum

Fabric & Fibre:
Please be advised that these are estimates and the final amount depends on how big or small you like to dye your samples. I would always encourage you to use the cloth/fibre you are going to work with in the future. Nonetheless, this should be enough for the year:
2.5m of Liona Linen white 190g/msq or your preferred linen/hemp etc. choice
2.5m of Liolina Linen natural beige 280g/msq or your preferred linen/hemp etc. choice
5m of Pongee Silk 0.5 or your preferred silk choice
5m of Organic Bubble cotton or your preferred cotton choice
1kg of Stockholm yarn or your preferred protein based yarn
That's it :) If you have any more questions, feel free to drop me an email! Best wishes, Jennifer

Restraint and romance enter into dialogue, in one nuanced yet simple design. Based on the same seamless construction with contiguous sleeves and scooped neckline, this garment can be knitted as Ada (a basic cropped pullover with ribbed edgings), or Ardor (an exuberantly ruffled dress). Features of the two can also be combined, for a versatile range of stylistic options. Which version would you like to make? You may not know until you start knitting. ALKANET DYE
ALKANET ~ Dye Colour: Purple, grey
*Cultivated in India
**The dye colour goes more into a purple blue grey, but it depends on how you extract the dye and what mordants you use.
***Please be aware that you will need to extract the dye with alcohol to achieve true purples.
Colourfastness: Medium
Below is an extract from Wikipedia which describes the colour as red...Time to experiment!
Alkanna tinctoria, the dyer's alkanet or alkanet, is a herb in the borage family. Its main notability is its roots are used as a red dye. The plant is also known as dyers' bugloss, orchanet, Spanish bugloss or Languedoc bugloss. It is native in the Mediterranean region.
Alkanna tinctoria has a bright blue flower. The plant has a dark red root of blackish appearance externally but blue-red inside, with a whitish core. The root produces a fine red colouring material which has been used as a dye in the Mediterranean region since antiquity. The root as a dyestuff is soluble in alcohol, ether, and the oils, but is insoluble in water. It is used to give colour to wines and alcoholic tinctures, to vegetable oils, and to varnishes.
Powdered and mixed with oil, the alkanet root is used as a wood stain. When mixed into an oily environment it imparts a crimson color to the oil, which, when applied to a wood, moves the wood color towards dark-red-brown rosewood, and accentuates the grain of the wood.
Alkanet is traditionally used in Indian food under the name "Ratan Jot", and lends its red colour to some versions of the curry dish Rogan Josh. In Australia alkanet is approved for use as a food colouring, but in the European Union it is not.
It has been used as colorant for lipstick and rouge (cosmetics).
In alkali environments the alkanet dye has a blue/purple color, with the color changing again to crimson on addition of an acid. The colour is red at pH 6.1, purple at 8.8 and blue at pH 10. Hence, it can be used to do alkali-acid litmus tests (but the usual litmus test paper does not use alkanet as the agent and its colour change is closer to pH 7).
The colouring agent in Alkanna tinctoria root has been chemically isolated and named alkannin.

ALLO ~ NETTLE FABRIC handwoven
*orders of more than one piece will be cut in one continuous length unless instructed otherwise *
Allo Nettle Fabric
And then there was the humble Nettle, so often despised for its sting. Nonetheless, it is a treasure. It can be used like Spinach, drank as a healing herbal tea, used for dyeing green and yellow, used in gardening as a pesticide and last but not least it creates fibre like Flax...
The Company:
NETTLE FABRIC ~ Made from Himalayan Nettles, wild harvested in Nepal. This fabric is ethically made in Nepal, by a company that is supporting homemakers, women and families to receive a decent income and to enable them to work from home, rather than finding employment abroad.
Nettle Fabric
In Europe, it used to be the linen for the poor. Cloisters and many other places devoted their time to the production of nettle yarn, nowadays pretty much forgotten and replaced by linen and cotton.
The Nepalian nettle, Girardinia diversifolia, grows up to 3m tall. There, the Nepalese still harvest and peel the nettle by hand, then it is placed in a semi boiling wood ash bath over night, which is used later for fertilizing the fields. The next day, the loosened fibers are beaten across a stone several times and rubbed with clay to loosen the remaining plant debris.
like most things in nature, this fabric has no one colour. The colour of one piece can vary from straw yellow to grey brown and even dark brown. Each length of fabric is a unique handwoven piece, in its truest, cleanest and most ecological form.
The fabric keeps and protects body warmth, can be boiled and becomes softer and more beautiful with time and wear.
In a nutshell:
100% Himalayan nettle
Approx. 65cm wide
Hands pun and woven
Each piece is unique and can vary to the picture shown
Rinse in a light soap wash
40-60degree wash
Shrinkage 10%
Suitable for making: Blazers, jackets, winter clothing, children's clothing, trousers, vests.
Cushions, table cloth, curtains.
Bags, upholstery, embroidery and much more
Because this cloth is produced by hand and in small amounts there isn't an endless supply of cloth. Please contact me, if you would like bigger quantities.
History:
Nettle yarn was once used widely in Europe and was known as the 'Poor man's Linen'. Nettles once rivaled flax and hemp (and later, cotton) as a staple fiber for thread and yarn, used to make everything from heavy sailcloth to fine table linen up to the 17th/18th centuries. "In Scotland, I have eaten nettles," said the 18th century poet Thomas Campbell, "I have slept in nettle sheets, and I have dined off a nettle tablecloth. The young and tender nettle is an excellent potherb. The stalks of the old nettle are as good as flax for making cloth. I have heard my mother say that she thought nettle cloth more durable than any other linen."

ALPACA LIGHT ~ Snow
Creating wearable Colours in a close relationship with nature - this Palette has been inspired by Fruiting trees & Shrubs, Irish River Meadows and Late Indian Summers.
Only selected baby alpaca fleeces from the Peruvian Andes are used for this incredibly soft and light Alpaca yarn. Spun in Peru, Alpaca Light still keeps with the general slouchy and drapey character of any Alpaca yarn. It is best suited for flowing and body skimming pieces, ideally knitted seamlessly. Unlike its bigger siblings, Alpaca Light is perfect for delicate knits, baby clothes or undergarments.

All our Alpaca yarns come from the Peruvian Andes
The entire production ~ from Alpaca farmer to the spun yarn ~ is done within Peru, supporting local employment and a low carbon footprint.

ALPACA QUITO ~ Caramel
Quito is the yarn you want, when thinking of frosty Autumn walks or a stroll in the snow.
Alpaca is one of the warmest fibre you can choose. Due to its slouchy and drapey effect it is best suited for flowing and body skimming pieces, ideally knitted seamlessly. Alpaca Quito is a single yarn, not plied, and, once knitted, allows for many air pockets to store that extra bit of warmth when needed.
The yarn is silky and soft, slips easily off the needles and allows for a quick knit – when knitting with Alpaca yarn it is advisable to go up by 0.25mm – 0.5mm a needle size to allow the amazing drape to flow and keep its buoyancy.
