Lima is a quietly complex yarn — combining softness, structure, and light with the subtle texture of plant and silk fibres.
Made from a balanced blend of wool, tussah silk, and linen, Lima offers strength and breathability alongside gentle lustre. The tussah silk, often called peace silk, is produced after the silk moth has naturally emerged from the cocoon. This creates a slightly more textured fibre, which interacts beautifully with natural dyes.
The addition of linen introduces a delicate speckle and gentle irregularity, giving the yarn visual depth and character.
Soft yet structured, Lima is especially suited to garments for warmer seasons, offering comfort, breathability, and durability.
The wool is sourced and processed in Peru. Linen from South America and tussah silk from China are blended and spun with the wool in Peru. Each skein is then naturally dyed at AppleOak FibreWorks using traditional, sustainable natural dye methods and organic dye materials.

Lime (calcium hydroxide)
It is possible to create a vat from indigo, lime (calcium hydroxide) and over-ripe fruit such as dates or bananas, relying on the chemistry of the sugars* rather than fermentation of the fruit. But it’s easier to simply use fructose. It’s very simple: One Part indigo, two parts lime and three parts fructose, plus warmth.
You can either purchase your individual items or you can purchase our Organic Indigo Vat Kit. The Organic Indigo Recipe is also available as a download and so is an Organic indigo Vat Troubleshooter (comes with a free download link if you purchase the Organic Indigo Vat Kit.
*Fructose and glucose found in ripe fruit are reducing sugars; ordinary sugar – sucrose – is not a reducing sugar.

100% linen is hypoallergenic, breathable, and cooling. It helps manage heat sensitivity, making it a wonderful fabric for those with allergies, hot flushes, or sensitive skin. It also resists mildew and bacteria naturally, making it ideal for both clothing and home use.
Linen thrives with regular washing and becomes softer and more supple with time. This fabric should be hung up dripping wet and does not need ironing — its natural creasing becomes part of its structure and appeal. It will last for years with proper care, wearing in rather than wearing out.
