Fine Cultivated Silk with Beautiful Lustre
Natural mulberry silk roving with exceptional shine and softness. Mulberry silk, also known as Bombyx silk, comes from the domesticated silk moth (Bombyx mori), which feeds exclusively on mulberry leaves.
This cultivated silk fibre is known for its smooth texture, strength and luminous sheen. Compared with wild silks such as Tussah, mulberry silk is finer, softer and more uniform in colour.
Mulberry silk cocoons are typically processed before the moth emerges in order to preserve the long continuous silk filament. This is why the fibre is often referred to as cultivated silk.
The fibre is naturally very white and takes dye beautifully, making it ideal for creating bright or subtle colours.
• Hand spinning
• Fibre blending
• Wet felting surface decoration
• Needle felting embellishment
• Dyeing projects
• Textile art and fibre work
When incorporated into wool during felting, silk adds beautiful sheen, texture and strength to the finished fabric.
• 100% mulberry silk (Bombyx silk)
• Fibre fineness approx. 10–13 microns
• Natural white colour
• Combed roving preparation
• Excellent dye affinity
Hand wash finished items gently in lukewarm water and dry flat. Avoid strong agitation.

MYROBALAN EXTRACT ~ Tannin Mordant & Natural Dye
Myrobalan Extract, derived from the nuts of Terminalia chebula, is a rich source of natural tannins, including gallic and ellagic acid. Traditionally used in textile dyeing and printing, it enhances mordant fixation on cellulose fibers and produces shades ranging from light yellow to deep brown. Combined with iron, it is a key ingredient in creating grey and black tones.
Mordanting: Prepares cellulose and protein fibres for improved dye absorption.
Dyeing & Printing: Produces soft yellow to brown tones, deepening when used with alum or iron.
Versatile Applications: Used in tannery, ink preparation, and silk processing.
Chebulic Myrobalan grows across Asia and parts of Africa, prized for its tannin-rich fruits. It has been used for centuries in textile traditions, tannery, and even traditional medicine.
As a mordant for cellulose fibres: Use 10–20% of the weight of the fabric (WOF).
For light yellow tones: Use 5–10% WOF.
For deeper brown shades: Use 20–30% WOF.
When used with iron for greys and blacks: Start with 10–15% WOF of Myrobalan, then follow with an iron afterbath (1–3% WOF).
Dissolve the extract in hot water before adding it to the dye bath for best results.
For optimal results, use as a pre-mordant or in combination with iron for darker tones.

SUITABILITY
Over the past year, I have noticed that many crafters use natural dye kits to dye Cotton, linen and other plant based fibres. Unknown to them, the mordanting instructions used for Wool or Silk are unsuitable for plant based fibres and often will result in pale, short lasting colours.
We have remedied that with our collection of ever growing dye kits and stand alone dye recipes. You can now choose the dye kit according to your fibre need ~ protein (wool & other animal fibres) or plant based fibres (linen, hemp, cotton)
****************************
The DYE Kit makes a lovely present too - well packaged in recyclable cardboard, the dyes come in resealable stand up bags and the recipe is printed on strong booklet paper, which can be reused again and again.
What you will receive in this Kit:
Full and reusable Dyeing instructions
How to care for your plant dyed things care card
150g Mrobalan ground, 10g Iron ~ all packaged in resealable stand up bags
MYROBALAN CHEBULIC ~ a tannin used for (pre) mordanting cellulose (Cotton, Linen) Fibres. Recipe below.
ORIGN: India
Myrobalan is a very common tannin used in India and around Asia. It creates a plum-like fruit from various trees of the genus Terminalia, formerly used in medicine as a mild laxative and now used in the dyeing industry.
Myrobalan creates butter yellow on fabric, like most tannins. Tannin is important for mordanting cellulose fibres like cotton and linen. Alum alone is not a suitable mordant for cellulose fibres and its use will produce inferior colours.
Myrobalan can be used in print, over dye with indigo for teal, use as a stand alone colour or as a mordant.

Recipe Downloadable PDF for creating Greys and Charcoal
Basic recipe for mordanting cellulose fibres:
A 2 step process, please read through the entire instructions first.
Step 1:
Ingredients:
10% Myrobalan (10% of the weight of fabric (w.o.f.))
1.Fill a plastic or stainless steel vessel with hot water (40-50 d. Celsius/100-120F) to a 30:1 ratio (water : fabric)
2. add tannin and stir until dissolved or evenly distributed
3. add fabric, immerse fully for 1-2 hours. The bath will cool down, which is totally fine. Stir occasionally.
4. use rubber gloves when removing fabric, squeeze fabric. Rinse very lightly or better spin it out using a centrifugal spinner or washing machine. Tannin is bound to the fibre only by affinity and can be removed if rinsed aggressively.
5. save mordant for future use.
6. don't let it dry before moving to the 2nd mordanting step.
Step 2:
Ingredients:
Alum 12% (w.o.f.) Dissolved in enough boiling water, cool.
Soda Ash 1.5% (w.o.f.) Dissolve in enough boiling water, cool.
1. Combine the two solutions while stirring. It will bubble, so make sure your vessel is big enough.
2. Bubbles will subside quickly and you should be left with a clear liquid. Add additional hot water as described above. Follow steps 3 - 5 from above.
3. Rinse the textile well, to make sure any unattached mordant is rinsed off.
4. The textile may be dyed immediately or dried for future use.
Tips:
*Too hot and the tannin will oxidize, which is fine, if you want a potentially darker colour. For overdyeing, it is best to keep the colour as light as possible.
** You can also use cold water instead of hot, but it will require a 12h soak at least.
***Any tannin can be used with this recipe, but for lighter results use Oak Gall or Tara.
Enjoy!

Traceable · Traditionally fermented · Origin: India · Approx. 35-42% indigotin
This is a high-quality, truly natural indigo, prepared in India from fresh leaves of Indigofera tinctoria using a traditional natural fermentation process. The indigo is supplied in powdered form and produces clear, stable blue shades ranging from very pale sky blues to deep, dark navies.
All batches are subject to analytical controls to verify their natural origin. This additional level of checking provides reassurance and traceability in a market where adulteration and partial synthesis have become increasingly common.
The main colouring component is indigotin, valued for its excellent lightfastness and wash fastness when dyed correctly.
Indigo is an insoluble pigment rather than a mordant dye. In order to dye fibre, it must first be reduced from its blue, oxidised state into a soluble yellow-green form. This reduced indigo penetrates the fibre and then re-oxidises on contact with air — the moment when the characteristic blue colour develops.
This indigo is suitable for a wide range of vat systems, including natural fermentation vats, fructose or sugar vats, lime-based mineral vats, bran vats, and quick vats using hydros or thiourea dioxide. Vats typically operate at 30–40 °C, making indigo dyeing a comparatively low-energy process.
It can also be combined with other natural dyes, such as yellows or reds, to create layered colours including greens, purples, and complex overdyes.
For pale sky blues, approximately 1 g of indigo per 100 g of fibre is sufficient.
Medium denim blues are usually achieved with around 5 g per 100 g of fibre.
Deep navy shades generally require 12 g or more per 100 g of fibre, built up through multiple dips.
Beyond textile dyeing, this indigo can be used as a natural pigment for paint making, ink, decorative finishes, and woodwork. When used as a pigment, it should be well ground into the chosen binder or medium to ensure even colour development and to avoid visible particles.
Indigofera tinctoria is a small shrub traditionally cultivated for indigo production and is thought to have originated in India. The plant and its dye are mentioned in some of the earliest Sanskrit texts, and indigo was long known as “the queen of dyes” before the widespread adoption of synthetic indigo at the end of the nineteenth century. Other species of Indigofera have also been used historically as sources of natural indigo.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed against moisture. Avoid inhaling fine powder and wear a mask when handling. Gloves are recommended when working with lime, hydros, or iron additives.
This product is not intended for food use.

Knitted in Italy from fine merino fibres, Nuvola Nero has a silky surface and fluid drape, making it perfect for garments worn close to the skin. The fine 180 g/m² weight offers warmth without bulk, while the dense knit structure ensures durability and excellent recovery.
The colour is a true, even black — elegant, timeless, and effortlessly versatile.
Clothing:
• Baby and children’s garments
• Loungewear, underwear and nightwear
• Lightweight tops, pullovers and cardigans
• Dresses, skirts and base layers
Accessories:
• Shawls, scarves, caps and wrist warmers
Light, breathable and naturally elastic — ideal for layering across all seasons.
• Material: 100% Merino Wool (mulesing-free, single jersey)
• Colour: Black
• Width: approx. 120 cm
• Weight: 180 g/m²
• Made in: Italy
• Cutting: Continuous length for multi-unit orders unless instructed otherwise
Fine merino jerseys may show a slight diagonal grain from production. Align pattern pieces with the knit direction rather than the selvedge to prevent twisting. Use a ballpoint or jersey needle and a gentle stretch or zigzag stitch. After washing, reshape while damp and dry flat to preserve elasticity and structure.
Merino refreshes naturally — brush lightly and air overnight between wears. When washing is needed, hand-wash cold (or use a delicate 30 °C wool cycle) with mild detergent.
Do not wring; reshape and dry flat.
Avoid tumble drying, bleach or hot ironing; a light steam or press cloth is sufficient.
Origin: Italy | Width: approx. 140 cm | Weight: 166 g/m² | 100 % mulesing-free merino wool
Orders of several lengths will always be cut continuously, unless instructed otherwise.
Soft as air and gentle on the skin, NUVOLA is a fine merino single jersey in a luminous milky white. Woven in Italy from 100 % mulesing-free wool, it has the fluid drape, elasticity and natural warmth of pure merino — almost as soft as cashmere, yet breathable and feather-light.
Perfect for babywear, underwear, light layers and trans-seasonal garments, this is the fabric you’ll reach for when comfort meets refinement.
Knitted from extra-fine merino fibres, Nuvola offers a smooth surface, delicate stretch and graceful fall. The milky-white tone glows softly, lending a sense of purity to every project. It pairs beautifully with our Merino Fine Walk range for tone-on-tone combinations.
Merino regulates temperature naturally and refreshes with simple airing — meaning less washing, less wear, and longer-lasting beauty.

OAK GALL
Use: Cellulose Fibre Mordant | Harvested From: Aleppo Oak in Turkey | Also Known As: Oak Apple | Recipe: link below
Oak Gall, also known as Oak Apple, is harvested from the Aleppo Oak in Turkey and is a traditional mordant used for cellulose fibres. Due to its high tannin content, it is an effective mordant for preparing cellulose-based fabrics for natural dyeing. Unlike other tannin-based mordants, Oak Gall only stains the cellulose fibre a light beige, making it a preferred choice for delicate dyeing projects.
Key Features:
Function:
Oak Gall is used to prepare cellulose fibres for natural dyeing, helping the dye adhere to the fabric without leaving stains. Its high tannin content ensures vibrant and durable colours on cellulose fabrics like cotton, linen, and hemp.
Storage & Usage:
Perfect for natural dyers and textile artists working with cellulose fibre. Please see this recipe for mordanting cellulose with Gallotannin
Source: Oak Galls (Quercus infectoria, Quercus spp.)
Oak Gall Extract is a tannin-rich, natural auxiliary derived from galls formed on oak trees. These galls are exceptionally high in hydrolysable tannins, especially gallotannins, making this extract a powerful resource for natural dyeing, ink making, and cellulose fibre pretreatment.
Unlike condensed tannins (like those from acacia or quebracho), hydrolysable tannins such as these produce much cooler tones when combined with iron – ideal for grey colours and part of black colour development.
• Gallotannins (hydrolysable tannins)
• Gallic acid
• Ellagic acid
• Pre-treatment: 10–15% WOF
• Iron dyeing (greys/blacks): 15–20% WOF
• Ink making: 1 part oak gall extract to 1 part ferrous sulfate in water
• Pre-treating Cellulose Fibres: Enhances mordanting and dye uptake
• Grey Dyeing with Iron: Creates cool to purple greys
• Ink Making: Core ingredient in historic iron gall inks
• Surface Design & Printing: Use in thickened pastes with iron modifiers
Oak galls form as a natural defence mechanism when certain wasps interact with oak trees. Rich in natural tannins, these galls have been harvested for centuries for dyeing and writing inks. This extract is purified and powdered for convenience and consistent performance.
High (when paired with a mordant)
This is not a dye extract with colour of its own, but a tannin auxiliary that works best when paired with metal salts (especially iron) or mordants.

OAK MOSS ~ Dye colour Champange Beige to Brown
*Oak Moss from responsibly harvested forests in Mazedonia.
Champagne is the closest colour I can think of to describe the colour obtained by Oak Moss. You can influence the nuances by adding different mordants, but generally no mordant is necessary.
Oak Moss is also used for Soap making to add texture and scrub to the soap.
Colourfastness: good
From Wikipedia
Evernia prunastri, also known as Oak Moss, is a species of lichen. It can be found in many mountainous temperate forests throughout the Northern Hemisphere, including parts of France, Portugal, Spain, North America, and much of Central Europe. Oak moss grows primarily on the trunk and branches of oak trees, but is also commonly found on the bark of other deciduous trees and conifers such as fir and pine. The thalli of oak moss are short (3–4 cm in length) and bushy, and grow together on bark to form large clumps. Oak moss thallus is flat and strap-like. They are also highly branched, resembling the form of deer antlers. The colour of oak moss ranges from green to a greenish-white when dry, and dark olive-green to yellow-green when wet. The texture of the thalli are rough when dry and rubbery when wet. It is used extensively in modern perfumery.
-------------------------------
A basic Recipe:
50% oak moss or more
wool/yarn ~ no mordant needed
Simmer moss for 3 hours.
Strain through Cloth.
Add wet wool to the dye pot.
Let it simmer for 1h, cool and leave overnight.
Rinse and dry.

I love jacquard knits, they add cheer to any wardrobe, keep you warm in the winter and the merino yarn just keeps you all snuggled up. I always wear Merino jacquards during the cooler months and can only highly recommend them. This lovely knit reminds one of winter storms, sporting a nice neutral colour range of greys and blacks.
What is Jacquard?
Jacquard is a broad term, but it basically means that the pattern is a woven design rather than printed.
This lovely jacquard fabric is perfect for the cooler months of the year. Snug and warm, this fabric will need sewing unlike our other wool fabrics so far.
Warm, but breathable, this would make a lovely cardigan, waist coat, cape, jumper, skirt, coat, jacket, poncho, shawl, leg or hand warmers, children's clothing and even cushion covers or blankets. Also sleeping bags for babies or hot water bottle covers can be made from this fabric.
