Kapok Fibre — Seed Pod Fibre (Plant-Based Stuffing)
Source: Kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra)
Kapok is a naturally moisture-resistant, quick-drying, resilient and buoyant fibre collected from the seed pods of the kapok tree. The floss is exceptionally lightweight (around one-eighth the weight of cotton) and inelastic/brittle, which makes it unsuitable for spinning, but perfect as a vegan, plant-based filling.
How it’s gathered
Pods are harvested (cut from the tree or collected after they fall), opened, and the seed and fibre are separated by hand. The fibre is then loosened and ready to use.
Uses
Stuffing & Filling:
• Cushions & pillows • Soft toys & dolls • Upholstery & seat pads • Meditation cushions • Draft excluders • Quilted projects & decor
Vegan alternative:
Ideal for anyone who prefers a plant-based filling or reacts to sheep’s wool.
