HYDROS – REDUCING AGENT FOR INDIGO / WOAD VATS
Chemical name: Sodium Dithionite (Thiox) | Grade: Textile | Use rate: ≤ 25 g per 10 L vat

Hydros—also known as sodium dithionite, thiox, or hydrosulfite sodium—is the fast, reliable oxygen remover used to bring indigo or woad vats into reduction. A quick sprinkle over the surface turns the liquor a yellow-green and readies it for dipping within about an hour. However, for best performance leave the vat for 2 days before dyeing.

Directions (10 L vat)

1. Set vat at 40 °C with indigo/woad and alkali already dissolved.

2. Sprinkle 25 g Hydros evenly over the surface. Always add Hydros to water—never water to Hydros.

3. Cover and wait ± 60 min. Vat should shift to yellow-green with a metallic film.

4. Stir gently, keeping air out, then begin dipping.

Safety & storage
Keep sealed, cool and dry. Avoid inhalation of dust. Add powder to water—never the reverse—to prevent rapid exothermic reaction. Dispose of spent vats according to local regulations and keep away from children.

Perfect for Felting, Spinning and Knitting

This European Merino Wool roving is a soft, voluminous and affordable all-round wool. It is great for wet felting as well as for needle felting, spinning and of course for XXL chunky knitting. All fibers align in the same direction and the roving has a regular thickness, making it an easy wool to knit with.

How long is this roving?

Wool is usually sold per weight. But sometimes you want to know how long the wool roving is. We have calculated the roving length of the different packages below:

• 50 grams = approx. 2 meters
• 250 grams = about 10 meters
• 1 kilo = about 40 meters
• Bump of 4.5 kilos = approx. 180 meters

Please note that this is an approximation. The length can vary per type of wool, per colour or per production. And the harder you pull, the longer the roving becomes.

Would you want to make sure you get the wool roving in one piece?

We try our best to deliver the roving in one piece. But please count in that even when we try our best we don’t always succeed. Sometimes we have no choice but to deliver the desired quantity in two or more pieces.

SUITABILITY

Over the past year, I have noticed that many crafters use natural dye kits to dye Cotton, linen and other plant based fibres. Unknown to them, the mordanting instructions used for Wool or Silk are unsuitable for plant based fibres and often will result in pale, short lasting colours.

Irish Linen – Oatmeal & Oyster (147–150cm Wide)

This finely woven, lightweight Irish linen is made from oxygen-bleached fibres, giving it a soft natural colour and gently textured flow. Although the fabric arrives unwashed and a little crisp, it softens beautifully with washing and wear. We recommend washing before sewing for best results.

Sustainability

Linen is one of the most environmentally responsible fibres available. Flax grows in poor soils, requires very little water, and every part of the plant is used — from fibre to seed.

Soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic, linen is excellent for those with sensitive skin or heat sensitivity. It regulates body temperature naturally and is a gentle choice for daily wear.

Linen does not require ironing — its natural creasing becomes part of the garment’s character.

IRISH WOAD SEEDS (Isatis tinctoria)

Woad is a unique and historic dye plant that has been used for centuries to create a stunning blue dye. Grown to organic standards in Co. Clare, Ireland, this biennial plant boasts 1m high stems with succulent leaves and produces foamy clusters of brilliant yellow flowers and is a beautiful addition to your garden, perfect for dyeing and eco-printing.

The leaves of Woad are harvested in the first year for dyeing, while the second year is dedicated to seed collection. If you’re looking for a way to grow your own colour, this is the plant for you.
